Cafe con Leche
Helping Pave the Road to Higher Education Since 2008
The Café Con Leche scholarship fund was established as part of the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation scholarship program in 2015 by Gonzalo Robles by donations from community individuals. The purpose of this fund is to help students who are first generation college, a student in good standing that has been accepted to either Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, TX or to Vernon College, of good character and exemplify a sense of community and dedication in serving others. This scholarship is reviewed and awarded through an external scholarship committee. Please see school counselor or contact Gonzalo Robles with Cafe con Leche for more information.
Café Con Leche allows parents to learn more about education and career opportunities for their children in a non-threatening setting. Facilitated by Gonzalo Robles, Educational Consultant, these forums take place in familiar places, such as schools, universities, community centers, neighborhoods and churches around the state. Robles encourages parents to discuss the fears and obstacles they face when making decisions about sending their students to a post-secondary educational institution and creating a “Culture of High Expectations” at home. Robles’ vision is to have families thinking and planning for college from the time their students enter elementary school. Café Con Leche was first developed by the Institute for Public School Initiatives (IPSI) at The University of Texas at Austin.
