Justin and Joan LeVasseur
Joan LeVasseur received a scholarship to assist with the cost of her college education, and realized what a scholarship can do for an individual. Receiving the assistance changed the trajectory of Joan’s life. Her late husband, Dr. Justin LeVasseur also received state tuition assistance while in college and medical school.
Joan grew up in a large family. Her father died when she was ten years old. Life was a mighty struggle. She was the first member in her family to get an education beyond high school. Joan attended Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana. Within a month of beginning school she met her future husband, Justin. They dated the entire length of her school years and were married three months after her graduation. Joan worked while Justin finished his last six months of school. An internship followed for Justin, then two years of military service, which was the price you paid to not get drafted in those long ago days.
Joan is blessed and happy to help struggling students attain their education. Joan feels Justin would have approved her decision to “pay it forward”, to help someone else realize their education goals.
