MLK Center of Wichita Falls

The Martin Luther King Scholarship fund was originally set up at the MLK Center of Wichita Falls, independent of the City of Wichita Falls. In 2001 the scholarship fund was moved to the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation as an Endowment and Scholarship fund. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage traditionally underrepresented groups i.e. racial and ethnic minority students to attend college and postgraduate schools by providing scholarship support. Award recipients are chosen by a scholarship selection committee directed by the Martin Luther King Center of Wichita Falls.

The MLK Breakfast is the main fundraising event to raise funds for these scholarships. There are usually 4-5 scholarships awarded from the MLK Center, then additional scholarships are funded through various businesses each year. Midwestern State University and Vernon College both provide two scholarships each. Various other businesses contribute each year to help students from this community achieve their educational goals.
